As a part of our 90th anniversary and beyond, we want to involve as many people as possible in our community who want to participate in a volunteer effort.  So many community-minded people ask us how they can help.

We were fortunate to learn about the US Surgeon General’s project on “loneliness.” His report describes a near epidemic in social isolation.    He describes the threats to our society when people are not connected and he calls for people to join with friends, coworkers, neighbors, etc. to help those in need. This is a perfect opportunity for The Community Chest to inspire our neighbors while also letting people know about who we are and the role we play in our community.

The statistics are sobering; many people of all ages report that they are experiencing loneliness/social isolation.  (see attached report from the US Surgeon General)  While more people who are socially isolated are low income, unhealthy, and without social connections, people from all groups can benefit from an outstretched hand and a friendly voice to help them get through the day.

How we can help:

  1. EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE

Resources to help you navigate the available programs and services our community has to offer

2. FOSTER MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS

Become a Connector

3 BUILD A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY

The Chest is inviting everyone to join in this community effort to bring friendship, support and connectedness to those who feel cut off.   We are inviting neighbors of all ages, from all ethnic and racial groups, from local congregations and civic groups, and from local businesses and other community institutions, from the 15 towns that The Chest serves, to join us in this project to help those in need.
