As part of its Strategic Plan, the Community Chest board of managers has decided that a major goal of the organization is to promote philanthropy to various segments of the population. This has been accomplished to date through the sponsorship of public educational programs about charitable giving and the sponsorship of a women's luncheon acknowledging the charitable contributions of women volunteers who are assisting local charities.
A new focus is on teaching young people about philanthropy which will be done through two recently developed curricula offered to nonprofits and schools. The Caring Kids Corps is geared toward 3rd through 5th graders and is adaptable to many different learning settings. It will be incorporated into the YWCA's after school programs in the coming months.
A similar program for middle and high school students where students learn firsthand about local nonprofit organizations will be launched at the Janis Dismus Middle School in Englewood during the 2017-8 academic year.
